The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) – Region XI is in full swing in intensifying the distribution of Family Planning (FP) commodities to the Local Government Units and expediting the provision of essential reproductive health services to its clientele through the inauguration of its Family Planning Warehouse and Wellness Clinic yesterday, August 12, 2020.

“While the Department of Health is the frontliner in the service provision of FP in the Rural Health Units, POPCOM’s role in the supply chain is the storage, delivery and distribution FP commodities. With the delineation of roles, the availability of FP services is fast-tracked and the dispensing of FP stocks is immediate. Even before the completion of the warehouse, POPCOM has already taken its liaison or conduit role between DOH and the Rural Health Units in transporting FP stocks.” said POPCOM Regional Director Bai Agnes Sampulna.

The operationalization of the warehouse will provide an opportunity for better tracking and recording of commodities acquired and dispensed. This shall also allow POPCOM to track commodity availability and incidences of stock outs for speedy re-stocking in Rural Health Units, thus immediately responding to commodity gaps at the facility level.

The 225 square feet facility shall store the FP commodities such as contraceptive pills, Sub-Dermal Implants SDI), Depomedroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) injectables, and other stocks.

Located at its Regional Office along Dumanlas-Friendship Road, SPMC Compound, Bajada, Davao City, it also houses a Family Planning and Wellness Clinic which provides Free Family Planning Services such as Family Planning Counseling, Pill Dispensing, Insertion or Removal of Sub-dermal Implant (SDI), Administering of Injectables, and Intra-Uterine Device (IUD) Insertion. The up-keep of the warehouse and service provision at the wellness clinics are run by trained and certified medical professionals.

“We are actually hitting two birds with one stone here since we are not only transporting commodities but also directly providing or dispensing FP planning methods. We not only cater to individual referred clients but also to the Family Planning needs of employees from companies which do not have FP clinics. This is in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI. We are slowly but categorically expanding our reach.” RD Sampulna added.

The POPCOM Family Planning and Wellness Clinic is open from Mondays through Fridays at 8:00AM to 5:00PM and can be reached through its Helpline at 305-5611 and 09291725938. POPCOM Region XI can also contacted through Facebook page, Commission on Population and Development – Region XI.
