The Commission and Population and Development (POPCOM) – Region XI is strengthening its capacity to support the supply chain for family planning (FP) commodities regionwide by ensuring the availability of FP information and services in health facilities, deemed crucial in preventing unplanned pregnancies among couples and individuals, through the inauguration of its new Family Planning Warehouse and Wellness Clinic on August 12, 2020.

The 225-square-feet facility located at the POPCOM – Regional Office XI along Dumanlas -Friendship Road, SPMC Compound, Bajada, Davao City, also houses a Family Planning and Wellness Clinic which provides Free Family Planning Services such as Family Planning Counseling, Pill Dispensing, Insertion or Removal of Sub-dermal Implant (SDI), Administering of Injectables, and Intra-Uterine Device (IUD) Insertion.  The up-keep of the warehouse and service provision at the wellness clinics are run by trained and certified medical professionals.

The facility will serve not only Davao Region, but also fulfilling the FP requirements of nearby Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or BARMM.

The hub stores FP commodities such as contraceptive pills, Sub-Dermal Implants SDI), Depomedroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) injectables, and other stocks, to effectively ensure the needed supply of the said items within the regions and surrounding local government units, especially those from the grassroots level as well as geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.

As co-manager of the Department of Health (DOH) in the delivery of FP services on-the-ground, the warehouses are physical proofs of POPCOM’s commitment to continuously improve its service delivery by partaking responsibilities in supply-chain management.
